GP practices are monitored by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England.
It makes sure that GP surgeries offer safe, effective, compassionate and high-quality care. The watchdog also issues one of the following ratings to practices – outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate.
We have searched the CQC’s website to find out which GP surgeries in and around Derbyshire have been given the best and worst ratings – and the full list can be found below.
Derby and South Derbyshire practices were not included in this ranking, and the GP surgeries are not listed in any particular order.
1. Whittington Moor Surgery, Scarsdale Road, Chesterfield
The Whittington Moor Surgery was given an ‘outstanding’ rating by the CQC, after an inspection took place in February 2024. Photo: Google
2. The Village Surgery, Shiners Way, South Normanton
A CQC inspection was carried out at this surgery in October 2022, and a report published in November 2022 gave the practice a rating of ‘requires improvement’. Photo: Google
3. Somercotes Medical Centre, Nottingham Road, Somercotes
The Somercotes Medical Centre was given an ‘outstanding rating’ by the CQC in March 2017. A review in July 2023 found no evidence that this rating needed to be reassessed by the CQC. Photo: Google
