Latest information on coronavirus from Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Chesterfield Royal Hospital has today released the latest information about the coronavirus situation there.

The hospital is currently looking after 10 people with Covid-19. At the height of the pandemic in mid-April, that figure was 70.

According to the latest NHS figures, 129 people have sadly died at the Royal after testing positive for the virus.

Since the end of March, 292 coronavirus patients have been able to return home after being cared for at the hospital.

The Royal has now reduced the number of Covid-19 wards from three to one and is restoring some critical services.

At the end of May, Angie Smithson, Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s chief executive, said: “We remain alert to the potential of a second surge – which scientists are widely predicting in the coming months.

“We have the ability to escalate our plans again – for both critical care and Covid-19 wards.

“This remains a high priority, alongside slowly starting to restore and recover other vital services, especially for patients who need urgent surgery and cancer care.”

According to the latest Government statistics, 2,398 people have tested positive for the virus across Derbyshire

The following numbers for Derbyshire’s lower tier local authorities were released at 4pm on Tuesday.

Amber Valley – 210 confirmed cases

Bolsover – 159 confirmed cases

Chesterfield – 233 confirmed cases

Derby city – 619 confirmed cases

Derbyshire Dales – 161 confirmed cases

Erewash – 202 confirmed cases

High Peak – 239 confirmed cases

North East Derbyshire – 327 confirmed cases

South Derbyshire – 248 confirmed cases
