We captured this video showing the market, Vicar Lane, Church Lane and other streets almost deserted as residents follow Government advice to self-isolate and avoid pubs, cafés and other venues.

Chesterfield market traders said yesterday they would ‘continue to trade for as long as we are allowed to’.

“We recognise that Chesterfield market is an important part of life for many people,” they said in a statement.

“We are also aware that for those who are elderly, live alone or can be on low or fixed incomes the market is essential – which is why we want to keep on serving you.

“On Chesterfield market and in the Market Hall you can buy everything you need.”

Most Chesterfield pubs are remaining open, some with reduced hours.
