At 3pm on Tuesday, staff at the Royal were caring for a total of 50 people with the virus – and 404 non-Covid patients.

On Tuesday last week, there were 54 Covid-19 patients at the hospital – 11 of whom required intensive care.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital spokesperson Sarah Turner-Saint said the trust had recorded a total of 187 Covid-19-related deaths since the end of March.

The hospital expressed its condolences to the loved ones of all those who have died.

According to the latest available data, there were 234 cases of Covid-19 in Chesterfield between November 13 and November 19, down 88 compared with the previous week.

The infection rate for this period was 233 cases per 100,000 people. The average area in England had 187.

In North East Derbyshire, there were 229 cases of Covid-19 between November 13 and November 19, down 55 compared with the previous week.

North East Derbyshire had an infection rate of 226 cases per 100,000 people for that period.

In Bolsover, there were 260 cases of Covid-19 between November 13 and November 19, down 102 compared with the previous week.

That area had an infection rate of 323 cases per 100,000 people for that period.

On Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed the current coronavirus lockdown will end on December 2.

From then, businesses including non-essential shops and gyms will be able to reopen – but under a strengthened three-tiered system.

Areas will not find out which tier they are in until Thursday.
