The coronavirus infection rate in Bolsover has increased by nearly 50 per cent in the last week, latest figures show.

Another 149 people tested positive for Covid-19 across the Bolsover District Council region during the seven days to October 18 – the latest date for which reliable numbers are available – according to data from Public Health England.

That’s a weekly rate of 185.0 new cases per 100,000 people – up from 126.6 for the previous week.

The number of new cases being recorded varies considerably across the area, with 37 people testing positive in one neighbourhood during the latest week compared with just six in another.

Bolsover District Council is still a ‘medium’ alert area under Tier 1 restrictions, the lowest level in the Government’s three-tier lockdown system, meaning different households can mix indoors and out but groups of more than six are not permitted.

Neighbouring Chesterfield is under Tier 2 restrictions, with different households banned from mixing indoors, despite having a slightly lower weekly infection rate of 158.2.
