Patient dies from coronavirus at Chesterfield Royal Hospital

A patient who had tested positive for coronavirus at Chesterfield Royal has died, bringing the total number of Covid-19 deaths at the hospital to 16.

Angie Smithson, chief executive, said the patient – who was in their 80s – passed away at the hospital yesterday (Friday, April 3).

She said: “Today I am passing on further condolences to a patient’s family, on behalf of everyone here at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

“This is an incredibly sad time for their relatives, friends and loved ones and we are thinking of them, as we continue to think of everyone already affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are incredibly grateful to our hospital, community-based and GP surgery colleagues who are working so hard in these unprecedented circumstances.
