Number of Covid hospital patients in Chesterfield  falls from 75 at peak to just 1

There were no patients on a ventilator as of Sunday, August 9, down from a high of 17 in April, according to the latest statistics from NHS England.

This is the first time a detailed breakdown of the number of Covid-19 patients by hospital trusts has been released, with only the daily number of deaths previously published.

It reveals the true scale of the challenge which faced the NHS in Chesterfield at the peak of the pandemic, and how cases have since fallen dramatically.

At Chesterfield Royal Hospital, 75 beds were occupied by coronavirus patients on April 7, but that figure had dropped to one by Sunday, August 9, the latest date for which data is available.

There were 17 people with Covid-19 in mechanical ventilation beds on April 2, with none on August 9.

To put those figures in context, as of Sunday a total of 399 beds across the trust were occupied and seven people required mechanical ventilation.

The last patient to be admitted to the hospital with Covid-19 was on July 28.

This week a total of seven people tested positive for coronavirus in Chesterfield according to the latest Government figures, showing a slight rise.

There were seven cases recorded in the seven days to August 9 compared to six new cases recorded in the seven days to August 2.
