Sky Morrell got the idea when the family followed advice by not seeing elderly relatives on Sunday, and decided she wanted to do some painting.

But rather than just producing one painting, she decided to paint for every house on Station Road, Hollingwood, where she lives with mum, Sharon, dad Darren, and two-year-old sister Star.

Taking sensible precautions of staying at least two metres from every resident when they came to the door, the family then delivered the pictures to help cheer up neighbours who were staying at home.

The move lit up the community facebook page that many of the residents share, and led to one resident sending Sky a painting of her own, and another delivering chocolates via Amazon.

Sharon, 41, said: “It was Mother’s Day and we couldn’t go and see our parents and we had lots of paint which Sky had been given for Christmas and she decided she wanted to do some painting. She said she had got an idea – I’m not doing just one, I’m going to do a picture for every neighbour.

“I said it’s a very long street but she said she wanted to do it for everyone, so we set up a sort of conveyor belt. I helped and her younger sister wanted to join in. We stopped to have our dinner and by 5.30pm we had finished so we set off delivering them.

“Even though we’ve lived here for 13 years, we didn’t know everyone on the street – I think Sky wanted to bring some smiles to the faces of neighbours. We stepped back after we had knocked on the door, and we met a lot of people that we didn’t know, and some of them had children of their own, and so hopefully when this is all over they will be able to play together. It really just got everybody talking.”
