Despite snow and ice causing widespread travel disruption yesterday and today, Derby & Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which is managing the rollout of the

vaccine across the county, said no appointments had to be cancelled.

A spokesman for the group praised staff and volunteers at many centres for going ‘above and beyond’ to ensure vaccinations could continue, with a tractor having to be called in to clear ice from one car park in Shirebrook today.

He added: “All the active primary care vaccination sites in Derbyshire are carrying out vaccinations as planned today, despite challenging weather for some sites at higher elevations.”

Vaccinations will begin at more sites over coming days and weeks, as the huge programme to get the UK’s most vulnerable people and frontline workers protected intensifies.

The first vaccinations in Derbyshire took place at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and Royal Derby Hospital on December 8, followed by the county’s first vaccinations at a primary care site on December 18 at Stubley Medical Centre.
