They have been summonsed to court to face allegations that they were associating with people other than those in their own household and their travel by car to Derbyshire was unnecessary.

Police in Derbyshire believe the four men, all in their early 20s, were involved in a fire which destroyed a four-acre swathe of moorland just off the A628 Woodhead Pass on Friday at about 8pm.

An investigation into the blaze is ongoing, but it is believed to have started when a barbecue got out of control.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service group manager Paul Hawker had said the blaze showed ‘the stay at home message isn’t getting through to some people’.

He said moorland fires caused ‘untold damage’ to the landscape and local wildlife, and tied up crews who could be attending potentially life-threatening emergencies.
