Derbyshire schools close over coronavirus fears and staff shortages

These Derbyshire schools have announced that they will close to some students as staff numbers fall and coronavirus fears escalate.

New Mills School has announced that as of tomorrow (Wednesday March 18) the school will be open to years 7 and 11 only in an effort to ‘preserve health and safety of both staff and pupils’.

Highfields School in Matlock will be open only to years 7, 11, sixth form and children of key workers who need childcare from tomorrow.

The school says this is due to a significant number of staff staying at home in line with recent Government guidance on self-isolation. It says it will re-evaluate on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, Parkside Community School in Chesterfield is closed to KS3 students from tomorrow, again due to staff self-isolating. The school remains open to years 10 and 11.

Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School is also closed due to a significant number of staff who are in self-isolation.
