Coronavirus infection rate falls in Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire

The coronavirus infection rate has fallen in Chesterfield and across North East Derbyshire, the latest government data shows.

The rolling seven-day rate of new Covid-19 cases for every local authority area in England shows the rate of infection per 100,000 people in the town fell from 38.4 in the week ending October 29 to 326.0 in the seven days to November 5.

Across North East Derbyshire, the infection rate dropped from 352.8 to 316.4 during the same period.

Between 31 October and 5 November, 342 people tested positive for the virus in Chesterfield, compared to 355 the week before.

Data for the most recent four days (November 6-9) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

A majority of areas in England – 210 out of 315 - have seen a rise in case rates.

In High Peak, the infection rate rose from 304.3 in the seven days to October 29 to 317.3 the following week.
