A hospital spokesperson said: “We want to pass on our thanks to people across our North Derbyshire communities.

“Right now, by staying at home, you’re protecting the NHS – so that our staff can come to work to look after those who need care and support.

“And as a result, 131 patients have now returned home after receiving care and treatment in our hospital for Covid-19.

“This is a number we want to share because it shows why following the ‘stay at home to protect the NHS’ advice matters.

“It means our staff can continue to care – and right now, it really can save lives.”

According to the latest figures, 61 patients have died at Chesterfield Royal Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 in the past four weeks.

The hospital spokesperson added: “We’ve often felt saddened that the national daily reports, by referring to them as mere ‘numbers’, mean they are not remembered as the mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, aunties, uncles, cousins and special friends they are.

“We do remember them in this way and they are in all of our hearts.”
