Chesterfield nurse temporarly shuts clinic to return to front-line in fight against virus

Registered General Nurse, Theresa Goldsmith left full-time nursing after opening the doors of The Goldsmith Clinic, in Markham House, on Lordsmill Street last year.

But after hearing about the severe staff shortages and of the pressure former colleagues are under, and before the Government ordered all non-essential providers to close, she took the decision to shut-up-shop and return temporarily to the NHS.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Theresa said: “

“I had initially planned to keep the clinic open until the government instructed otherwise. However, last night it suddenly dawned on me that as a Registered Nurse my sole purpose is to work in the best interests of everyone.

“COVID-19 is a virulent virus. Its transmission is like no other virus that we have seen. It goes without saying, my services are desperately needed back in the NHS now, so that’s where I’m going. I’ll be working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner until the crisis has passed.”

The late night Facebook post was flooded with messages of support from clients.

The opening of The Goldsmith Clinic was the realisation of a long-held dream for Theresa who, along with personal trainer Lucy Shakespeare, spent thousands of pounds transforming the premises into a luxury health, fitness and wellbeing destination, leading Lordsmill Street to be dubbed The Harley Street of Chesterfield.

Since opening, two further businesses have relocated to The Goldsmith Clinic – The Sanctuary and LaserMed, Chesterfield’s first laser hair removal clinic. In the interests of public safety both The Sanctuary and LaserMed took the decision to temporarily suspend business prior to Monday night’s Government ruling.
