Bosses at the discount supermarket announced that some workers will now be priorisied at the door and will be able to jump the queue at the checkout.

Emergency workers will no longer have to wait in queues as long as they can show their ID.

The new measures are not restricted to any particular time of the day, meaning no matter what time emergency workers clock off, they will be able to shorten the time taken to do a shop.

Aldi has already introduced early access to stores for emergency workers, with 30 minutes on Sundays allocated just for frontline staff.

Bosses hope to ease the stress of the food shop after working long hours on the frontline of the fight against coronavirus.

In a statement, Aldi said: “All day, every day, key workers in the NHS, police and fire service will take priority ahead of queues into our stores upon showing a valid ID.

“This is in addition to early access on a Sunday, where they can enter stores 30 minutes prior to opening.

“Thank you from everyone at Aldi.”

Last week, clear screens were put up at more than 7,000 Aldi checkouts, and two-metre markers on floors to encourage social distancing at checkouts have been introduced.

Shoppers have been encouraged to use contactless payments, and opening hours have been reduced in a bid to help staff re-stock.
