Chesterfield Royal Hospital has issued an update on its policy for visiting relatives amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bosses say they have ‘opted to keep visiting suspension in place’ for now to protect ‘our patients, staff and communities from the risk of coronavirus.

A statement released today said: “As we cautiously begin to recover and restore some of our critical services, it is essential that we all continue to do whatever we can to reduce the risk of transmission as much as possible.

“Individual needs for compassionate visiting such as being with babies, children, women in labour or other vulnerable patients and the critically ill or end of life can be discussed with the ward matron or nurse in charge.

“However, general visiting will remain on hold for the time being.”

One parent or carer may accompany a child or young person under the age of 18.

One birthing partner may attend the Birth Centre during labour only.

One relative or carer may stay with a patient attending the Emergency Department if the patient is below 18 years of age or if the patient has severe cognitive impairment and cannot make decisions for themselves (in line with Mental Capacity Act regulations).

One relative or carer may accompany a patient attending an urgent out-patient appointment.

One relative or carer may visit or accompany a patient who cannot make decisions for themselves (in line with Mental Capacity Act regulations).
