Chesterfield school celebrates new identity with relaunch event attended by town mayor


The event at Walton Peak Flying High Academy saw children performing on an outdoor stage with visiting stalls for the community to enjoy, a falconry display by Nottinghamshire’s Go-Active Bird of Prey Centre as well as a surprise appearance by Chesterfield Football Club’s mascot, Chester the Fieldmouse.
Formerly called Whitecotes Primary School, the Whitecotes Lane-based academy joined The Flying High Trust in January and is seeing rapid development and facility upgrades under its new leadership.

Hide AdPaul Goodman, Deputy CEO of The Flying High Trust, said that the day marked the beginning of a bright future for the school.
He said: “We are delighted that the launch of Walton Peak Flying High Academy was such a success.
“Working with the academy’s leadership team, the Trust, has set out its vision to provide a school which the whole community can be proud of. In partnership with families, we will
ensure that the children of Walton Peak Flying High Academy are given the best opportunities to flourish and succeed in their education.”

Hide AdHeadteacher Mark Parkinson added: “Our new school song really sets the tone for the exciting times ahead for Walton Peak Flying High Academy. The children have shown how much we can achieve in such a short time, and we are all looking forward to the year ahead and raising the bar higher as we go.”
The event was attended by Chesterfield MP, Toby Perkins, and The Mayor of Chesterfield, councillor Glenys Falconer who said: “The event has been absolutely fabulous and there is clearly a lot of talent amongst the children here.
"Any child attending this school will have the chance of a great future, and with a good grounding for their next school.”
During the event it was announced that Ashgate Hospicecare would be the academy’s chosen charity for fundraising efforts.

Hide AdLynn Jones, Community Fundraiser at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: “We rely on fundraising to make our work possible and the support of the school will help us to continue caring for families living with a life limiting illness across North Derbyshire.
