Kitchen staff at Derbyshire school continued going into work despite positive Covid-19 case

Kitchen staff at a Derbyshire school who were potentially exposed to coronavirus continued going into work after one of them tested positive for the illness.

The Bolsover School confirmed a member of the Chartwells catering team, who provide meals for pupils, tested positive for the illness on Monday, 9 November – but fellow kitchen staff who should have been self-isolating returned to work the next day.

In a statement, head of school Matthew Hall said: “Due to safe working practice measures in place as part of their COVID-19 risk assessment, we were informed that this did not impact on any others within the school.

"However, when the catering team received notifications from Track and Trace, late morning on Tuesday 10 November, the entire team were asked to leave site immediately so that they could isolate.”

The school’s catering service is operated by Mitie PfI, who employ Chartwells to deliver the catering service. A limited catering service is in place until the kitchen staff finish self-isolating.
