Eckington School headteacher praises students on GCSE results day

The year 11 cohort has experienced a difficult time because of the coronavirus pandemic – which resulted in the school being closed since mid-March and the cancellation of public examinations.

But the school said its latest set of GCSE results ‘continue to reflect consistently improving academic performance over the last four years’.

Eckington School’s acting principal Alison Burgess said: “Each year our students produce pleasing examination results – and once again we are incredibly proud of their efforts and results this year.

“These outcomes are a testament to the tireless work that the students, their families and staff have put in on a daily basis.

“We saw these students begin their lives at Eckington School as young adults – they have now succeeded academically and have also developed into well-rounded individuals.

“In addition, our students’ success in sport and the arts, and their work with charities and so on, reflect their hard-working and empathetic qualities.

“We wish them well in their future lives.”

The school said the following students deserve special mention, receiving all grades at 6 or above (or equivalent) in all of their subjects: Leah Whiting, Harriet Wakefield, Dylan Copley-Dunn, Liam Pilcher, Ryan Holmes, Archie Herring, Milly Ballington, Jack Walker, Bronwyn Jenkinson, Yasmin Barker, Kostya Fedun, Stepan Fedun, Jack Fieldsend, Megan Beck, Caitlin Curtis, Grace Wood, Katelyn Barber, Isabel Barker, Summer Irek, Taylah Ripley, Isabelle Bramall, Olivia Mouat and Hollie Sampson.
