Derbyshire headteacher issues message to parents after reports of ‘planned fight’ between school pupils

A Derbyshire headteacher has urged parents to talk to their children about the importance of avoiding conflict after rumours of a planned fight between pupils at two schools.

Killamarsh and Eckington Police SNT issued the warning to parents at Eckington and Wales high schools yesterday as they worked to prevent the fight from happening.

Today, Nick Melson, principal of Eckington School, has spoken out on the matter.

He said: “Derbyshire Police asked us yesterday to inform our parents of rumours of a possible fight between students from another local school and some of our students.

"As a result, we made parents in the relevant year group aware of the situation and asked them to discuss with their children the importance of staying safe and avoiding conflict at school and within the local community.

"As a school that believes in achieving excellence, we will always take situations like this very seriously, and will work with the police and local community in the interests of community safety.”
