A Chesterfield school is to stay open to all pupils after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

Brookfield Community School on Chatsworth Road announced the news in a letter to parents today but said no pupils needed to isolate due to the ‘robust risk assessment and control measures’ they had put in place.

The school’s headteacher, Keith Hirst, said he understood that parents may find this concerning, but that his priority would always be the well-being of all children at the school and his staff.When a case of Covid-19 is confirmed at a school, the person with the virus must be immediately sent home to self-isolate.

The school then must contact the government’s coronavirus advice unit for guidance on whether to send anybody else home.

Since schools reopened in early September, dozens of schools in the region have had confirmed cases, with some sending home entire years groups to isolate.
