Drawings, pictures, photographs, crochet, songwriting and sculpture all with the theme of ‘Heritage’ were on display with the event formally opened by the Mayor of Amber Valley, Councillor Paul Lobley BEM and consort Ginette Lobley along with Belper Town Mayor Councillor Sue Devine, with Jonathon Davies MP popping in later in the day.
Independent professional judges viewed the exhibits prior to the Showcase and many young exhibitors, with parents and family, were excited to see how their work had been assessed. All exhibitors receive a certificate with first and second in each category receiving a gift voucher.
Rotary President John Stamp said, “Rotary organisers had not seen the exhibits prior to setting up the Showcase on Friday. It was an absolute joy as we attached the sticky tabs and put each exhibit on the display boards. This is the third year we have encouraged young people to display their talent and yet again we are overjoyed to see the wonderful art in this year’s Showcase. Very well done to everyone.”
The pictures show category winners, Juliet & Eleanor Leach, Daffron & Reuben Pavell, Sarah Groom-Bridge, Emily Taylor and Damuel Burgess.
The first, second and highly commended Rotary You-Create exhibits will be displayed during the Belper Arts Trail on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th May in Belper’s’ Ada Belfield Centre adjacent to the library.
