The Rotary Club of Church Wilne recently welcomed Jane Whitaker, a local historian, to our speaker meeting, she gave an inciteful talk on the history of Derby, around the Cathedral quarter.

Walker Lane occupied quite a large area but now is only 56 meters long, after the slums were removed and the area was redeveloped.

The story of Walker Lane is intertwined with the growth of Derby and the rise of the factories and mills. At that time, people moved into the area to work and needed a place to live. It grew rapidly and became a place of poverty. Jane told us many interesting stories about the people who lived in the area.
