Run by Dani Rhodes, 31, and her long-time friend Holly Tunnicliffe, 29, Tabula Rasa drips with a sense of artistry and trust. Open-handed and welcoming, this friendly pair are more than happy to answer your what ifs, whys and ‘who’s your best tattoo artist to put a cool portrait of my cat on me?’ Holly and Dani have stood strong in a once was male-dominated industry and created their own place, in their own way. Okay, let’s ask them a question or six.
5. Is there still a sense of discrimination against tattoos?
Holly: “I’d say that’s all dying off really now, but you do get the odd person that still feels very strongly against them. And they’re never afraid to tell you either.”
Dani: “Think it’s getting better in jobs, isn’t it. I think personally, as long as it’s not offensive, in the way it’s not racist, not homophobic, not hateful, it shouldn’t be a problem. That’s how I feel, because it’s so common now. These days it’s more common to have a tattoo than to not.” Photo: Laura designing tattoo art
6. What’s the most unusual place you’ve tattooed?
Dani: “A toe.”
Holly: “I can’t really talk about mine…” Photo: Holly and Dani, tattoo artists of Tabula Rasa, Chesterfield
