The shop at Ravenside Retail Park, along with the 20 of the chain’s last 48 stores, will close permanently on Wednesday, May 12.

Online fashion retailer Boohoo took over Debenhams for £55 million at the start of this year, after they went into administration at the end of 2020 but the rescue deal excluded the department store’s 118 branches.

There will be discounts of up to 80% off for shoppers before the Chesterfield branch officially shuts, although beauty and fragrance will be capped to 70% off.

Colleagues returned to 97 of the department chain’s stores on April 17 to help sell remaining stock before their closure.

It comes after 12,000 Debenhams workers lost their jobs overnight when Boohoo acquired the 242-year-old business on January 21 but refused to take on its existing high-street shops.

In a statement, Debenhams said: “Over the next 10 days, Debenhams will close its doors on the high street for the final time in its 242 year history.

"Our sincere thanks go out to all of our colleagues and customers who have joined us on this journey.

"We hope to see you all one last time in stores before we say a final goodbye to the UK high street.”

The retail chain’s other 27 branches including its Sheffield and Meadowhall stores will close on May 15 and from then on, gift cards, credit notes, refunds and exchanges will no longer be accepted.
