Work began on the centre, part of the town’s Northern Gateway scheme, in April last year and it is almost ready for occupation.
The Northern Gateway Enterprise Centre is being built on part of the Holywell Cross car park, in the “Donut” roundabout, opposite the new Saltergate multi-storey car park, which opened in 2019.
Planning permission was granted in February 2019, in a bid to meet demand for office space for growing small businesses.
However, before work could begin, an archaelogical dig was carried out on the site, which revealed pottery dating back more than 600 years.
The first images of the planned finished development were revealed in January 2020, although construction work was delayed slightly by the coronavirus pandemic, finally getting under way in April.
Work is scheduled for completion in spring 2021, when Chesterfield Council hopes to welcome the first tenants.
It will have 32 office suites, ranging in size from 26 sq metres to 120 sq metres, as well as a shared reception and lobby area, meeting rooms, kitchenettes, a break-out area, bike storage and shower and changing facilities.
A council spokesman said: “These office spaces will be offered on easy in and out letting terms and tenants at the centre will also benefit from access to a range of other council services and venues, including business support and corporate rates for leisure passes, parking permits and conferencing facilities.”
