Steve Free’s Music In The Green is a crate-digger’s heaven, the shop chock-full vinyl and CD stocked, yet carefully organised by genre and vibe so your geek antennas can twitch away happily towards your preferred sounds.
And if you’re after a compass towards stuff you might like, the very knowledgeable Steve will very happily throw in suggestions based on what you know already gets you off.
Steve’s Music In The Green also covers festivals too, and has been known to natter to some pretty famous folk along the way. So for ‘You met who!’ gossip and a crate-digging delight, Steve’s shop is a music lover’s must.

5. If you could be any musician, who would you be?
“I suppose I’d want to be Robert Plant, I think. I don’t say I know him well, but I see him every year because he’s at a festival I do, and he normally comes in and nods to us. Yeah, I’d probably want to be him in Led Zeppelin.” Photo: Tee shirts and vinyl

6. If you had a time machine, where would you go, when and why?
“Being from Liverpool, I’d like to go back to The Beatles, the first night they played the Cavern. And just get swept along with that, see what it was all about. That time, that music and The Beatles themselves, it’s a hub. And all the spokes that have come out from it.” Photo: Steve crate-digging

7. And what’s the answer to life?
“Treat people how you would like to be treated by them. And have in your mind you’ve no idea what someone’s going through. If you can’t be anything, just be kind. I think that’s what I want from people around me.” Photo: Steve and a Nick Drake LP
