Hotel chain ranks Peak District as UK's favourite national park based on reviews and Instagram hits

Premier Inn compiled data from Google reviews and Instagram users to produce a ranking of how popular and picturesque they are, and how highly people rate them.

A company spokesman said: “UK breaks are going to be more appreciated than ever in 2021, and any one of our 15 national parks provides the ultimate getaway destination, with plenty of outdoor space and fresh air.

“After the year we’ve all had, it’s time to explore and appreciate our nation’s most scenic landscapes.”

We’re thrilled that there are options in various corners of the UK, from Wales through to Scotland, and hope that this summer everyone gets a chance to experience one themselves.”

The popularity of the Peak District which is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2021 as the country’s original national park, was driven largely by its diverse attractions.

Spanning five different counties, it offers visitors immense vistas, hair-raising adventures, 2,900 listed buildings, and Bakewell puddings.

National parks cover more than ten per cent of the UK’s landmass and attract around 110 million visitors each year.

The rest of the top ten, in order, was Lake District, Snowdonia, Dartmoor, Cairngorns, Brecon Beacons, South Downs, Yorkshire Dales, Exmoor and New Forest.

The research also identified the Yorkshire Dales as a ‘hidden gem’, ranking highly for good reviews but with the lowest number of visitors.
