Fred’s Haberdashery has been taken on by husband and wife team Steve and Emily Lord who have moved the shop across town to West Bars.

The new store, which is twice as big, will stock all the sewing, knitting and craft items the former premises did with plenty of new items.

Emily says the store opened its doors this week and admits she has ‘barely had time to breathe’ after relocating across town.

“It has been so busy and most people had read the sign at the old shop and come along to find us here. We have already had a lot of lovely feedback from people who have visited us,” she said.

“Some of the customers have come from far afield specifically to visit our shop, which is wonderful.

“I think it helps to draw people to the town centre to do their shopping and we hope it helps to spread the word.”

Emily worked in the shop under its previous ownership, but admits running the business is ‘completely different’.

She and Steve hope to make a success of their new venture and believe it could help attract more shoppers to Chesterfield.

“It should be good for the rest of the town and it is keeping a well-known name going,” Emily added.

“There are so many great independent shops hidden away in Chesterfield and we need to help people discover them so they keep coming back.”

Fred’s will continue to host craft and crochet classes and Emily says she is pleased the new shop will also sell wool.

“We are hoping the new stock of wool will be a real draw for people getting their knitting supplies,” Emily added.

The shop has always prided itself on excellent customer service and previously won Leisure Retailer of the Year at the Chesterfield Retail Awards.
