The Main Road shop struck double with their gluten-free sausage and home-made pastrami in the ‘Fresh from the Deli’ category.

Judges deemed Owen Taylor’s gluten free herby sausage as being “a well-made sausage with a good bite and texture”.

Owen Taylor received a glass trophy for both awards.

Carl Evans, operations manager of Owen Taylor and Sons, said: “Naturally, we’re over the moon to pick up two category-leading diamond awards in the face of such strong competition from our fellow butchers nationwide.

“I dedicate these successes to our entire team.”

Among several new awards categories this year was the ‘Young Butcher of the Year’, open to all aged under 24.

Owen Taylor’s Lennon Callister, aged 20, was shortlisted for a diamond with his stuffed pheasant with black pudding and shallots.

Mr Evans said: “Lennon has accomplished a lot to be proud of in the last two years.

“Although he did not come back with any medals, Lennon did extremely well and scored better than he imagined he could in every category, and we could not be more proud.”
