Will Derbyshire move to Tier 2 on Wednesday? What we know about this week's lockdown review

Derbyshire will soon find out if it will enter Tier 2 restrictions or remain in Tier 3, as the Government reviews the covid-19 tier system on Wednesday.

According to data from Public Health England, Chesterfield has seen a slight drop in its confirmed Covid-19 cases, as it recorded 134 cases in the seven days to December 8, a drop by 4 cases compared to previous week.

This brings its infection rate to 127.7 per 100,000 population, as compared to London of 224.7 per 100,000 population.

In the week up to December 5, the infection rate for the Derbyshire town was 132.5 per 100,000 people, meaning there were 139 new cases reported that week.

The week before, in the seven days to November 28, the infection rate in Chesterfield was 129.6, meaning there were 136 new cases.

However, North East Derbyshire recorded a three-case increase in its positive cases that brings a total of 116 cases in the seven days to December 8, with an infection rate of 114.3.

Derbyshire is currently under Tier 3 restrictions is in the highest lockdown restrictions, which means pubs and restaurants are only allowed to operate as a takeaway and household mixing is banned.

The Government is due to review the tier system on December 16, with any changes into Tiers for any area set to be announced before being put in place from Saturday, December 19.

London, which is currently under Tier 2, however could risk joining other parts of the country in the strictest Tier as its Covid infection rates have failed to subside.
