New discount supermarket to create 48 jobs when it opens near Chesterfield
A discount retailer is to open a new store in north Derbyshire and create 48 new jobs.
Home Bargains’ £1 million new store in Clay Cross will be officially opened at 8am on Saturday, May 1.
Store bosses say the new outlet, on Carnforth Road, will create 48 jobs and they have also pledged to donate £2,000 to local charity Clay Cross Foodbank, which provides three days’ worth of food to those struggling in Clay Cross and surrounding areas.
Katie Goddard, the new store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Clay Cross store this weekend and something that I’m exceptionally proud of.
“Having worked for Home Bargains for 11 years, working my way up from an in-store team member, this is certainly a special moment and one I’ll cherish for the rest of my career.”
The 15,349 sq ft store will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.
Kay Adlington, administrator at Clay Cross Foodbank, said: “We are very grateful for this donation, which will help us provide food to many households in our community and support our work to make food poverty something that families won't have to worry about in the future.
"Our work relies on the kindness of the public and we are so blessed to be given gifts like this, and for the ongoing support from our community.”
The store will employ 55 people in total, including some staff and management who will be transferring from local stores.
