“There will also be plenty of free parking right beside the gym.”

They said the gym would be ‘incredible’ and ‘game-changing’.

Xercise4Less called in administrators earlier this year when it ran into financial trouble amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

JD Gyms subsequently bought Xercise4Less’s gym estate.

Alun Peacock, managing director of JD Gyms, said: “We are delighted to have completed this acquisition which enhances our position in the highly competitive gym market and which will ensure the continued employment of many hundreds of people.

“We look forward to reopening the gyms and welcoming our new colleagues and members over the coming weeks.”

Gyms were closed for nearly four months during the first coronavirus lockdown earlier this year.

They were again forced to shut on December 5 after the Government announced another four-week lockdown in England aimed at curbing the deadly bug.

Criticism has been voiced about the closure of gyms – with many insisting they are good for mental as well as physical health.

A recent study by Sheffield Hallam University found gyms, fitness clubs and leisure facilities have ‘extremely’ low levels of coronavirus risk.
