Calls to support Chesterfield's cafés and restaurants as MP backs 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme

The government has introduced an ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme that offers half-price meals bought out on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during August to support the beleaguered hospitality trade this summer.

Mr Perkins marked the new scheme by taking his partner, Amanda Collumbine, and her two children, to breakfast at Chesterfield town centre business Stephenson’s Coffee House on Tuesday.

The Labour MP said: “I may have been critical that government support hasn’t always been targeted where it’s needed most, but this scheme is in place now and so all we can do is make the best of it.

"I would urge those who are able to support their local hospitality trade to find out which venues are participating and get out there and support them this August. I would also urge all pubs, cafés and restaurants to sign up to the scheme.”

Manager of Stephenson’s Coffee House, Claire Wood, said: “It was lovely to see Toby and Amanda again this morning, we are really grateful to all our customers who are coming through the doors in encouraging numbers.

"We have taken significant steps to ensure that we have a safe environment here, and I know how much that’s been appreciated.”

Mr Perkins added: “We want these cafés, pubs and restaurants to still be there when Covid has gone.”
