Chesterfield shoppers 'gutted' at closure of town centre bar and café
Chesterfield town centre shoppers say they are ‘gutted’ after a bar and café closed suddenly.
Residents took to social media to share their memories of Pump + Grind after it was revealed the venue has closed its doors just two years after opening.
The Stephenson Place bar and café is shuttered-up with a message posted in the window confirming it is no longer trading.
Many readers said they were sad that another town centre business had folded.
Posting on our Facebook page, Jonathan Hill said: “Gutted. Best coffee anywhere. Great food and environment. Will be missed.”
Kane Nimmo said: “I can't believe this it was always packed!”
Christine Teresa posted: “Gutted. Lovely staff, food and the best coffee. Was our go-to place most weekends.”
Others said not enough people were using the town’s independent venues.
Chris Naylor posted: “Businesses can’t survive on people saying they’ll try it & never go… use it or lose it.”
And Danny James added: “Use it or lose it. Shame, it was a really nice place.”
Many people said they will miss the ‘brilliant’ staff at Pump + Grind and some of the popular items on the menu.
Raven Celeste said: “I’ll never get to have one of the nicest burgers again.”
But Sam Lucas posted on Facebook: “It was way over-priced and trying too hard to be ‘hip’ I’m not surprised.”
The message left in the window urges anyone with queries to contact Matlock insolvency company Seneca.
