David Dury, Degree Apprenticeship Manager at Nottingham Trent University said “We believe apprenticeships are one of the most powerful ways to develop talent, strengthen organisations and create opportunities for individuals to thrive. We are delighted to sponsor the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Apprenticeship Awards 2026 and to celebrate the exceptional apprentices, mentors and employers whose commitment to excellence is helping shape the future. Their achievements deserve recognition and we are honoured to play a part in showcasing their success."

The 2025 Winner of the Degree Apprentice of the Year in 2025 was Adam Robinson, of Derbyshire Community Health Services

Adam’s journey from uncertain beginnings to becoming a registered nurse is a testament to resilience and purpose. Initially uninterested in nursing, Adam’s path changed dramatically after caring for his terminally ill father. This personal experience ignited a passion for supporting individuals in end-of-life care. Facing initial barriers in gaining experience, Adam travelled to a neighbouring city for training, overcame educational setbacks by resitting GCSEs, and excelled academically despite being diagnosed with dyslexia.

Adam’s determination was further tested when he battled cancer during his foundation degree but persevered, achieving distinction and securing a role closer to home. At Derbyshire Community Health Services, Adam continued to excel, tailoring studies to enhance community nursing and leading initiatives such as educational resources for HIV/AIDS care. Now set to graduate with top honors, Adam aspires to further specialise in palliative care, inspired by the legacy of his father and supported by the NHS, turning adversity into a meaningful vocation. The awards programme continues to grow year on year, encouraging entries from across the region and celebrating the vital role apprenticeships play in strengthening local industries and communities. Winners will be revealed at a prestigious live awards ceremony, bringing together the apprenticeship community for an evening of celebration, networking and recognition.

Businesses supporting apprenticeship schemes are invited to submit nominations and take part in this regional celebration.

Nominations are open to apprentices themselves, as well as employers, colleges and training providers. Dedicated categories also recognise employers and mentors, allowing businesses to nominate teams and individuals who go above and beyond to support apprentice development. Entries must be submitted online via www.dnapprenticeshipawards.co.uk

The winners will be announced at the live event on Thursday, October 1st, held at The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Nottingham.

To be eligible for apprentice award categories, applicants must live, work or train within the region and have been enrolled on their apprenticeship programme for at least 12 months prior to the event date. Entries may be submitted by the apprentice, employer or training provider. All submissions are assessed against clear judging criteria, and applicants are encouraged to address each directive in full to support a strong and competitive entry.
