Mum-of-three Leanne Timmins says the news has been a huge boost for her during the current national lockdown when her salon has been forced to close its doors.

Leanne set up Nu-you Beauty in Creswell just two years ago after making a career change following the birth of her youngest child.

Now she is a finalist in two categories of the UK Hair and Beauty Awards – Lash Stylist of the Year and Best Eyelashes Extension Salon.

Leanne, whose children are aged aged three, 13 and 16, said: “I used to work as a community carer but after having my youngest son I wanted to change my work and home life balance so decided to retrain as an eyelash and nail technician.

"I started my business in 2019 as soon as I had qualified, initially working from my living room.

"In 2020 I then had my own little studio built at home and from then it's just blossomed and I now have a regular flow of lovely clients who have also become friends.”

Leanne entered herself into The National Hair and Beauty Awards this year and sent photos of her work to be judged by beauty experts.

"I never expected to hear anything back if I'm honest but then to have been selected as a finalist for two categories was brilliant.

“I couldn't believe it, I was overwhelmed and extremely happy.”

The winners will be announced in March.

The UK Hair and Beauty Awards say they aim to support ‘businesses both large and small’ and ‘no matter their financial or social status’.

"We base all our decisions solely on the talent of individuals and businesses, new and old, large and small,” a spokesperson said.

“As a new small business continued lockdowns have been extremely hard,” Leanne said.

"But my clients have shown me such continued support throughout. Being selected as a finalist has not only boosted my personal confidence but has also highlighted my home business being located in the small village of Creswell.”
