They play the city’s Motorpoint Arena on Friday, March 6.

One of Britain’s great iconic bands of the 1980s, Spandau Ballet have sold over 25 million records, scored numerous multi-platinum albums and amassed 23 hit singles across the globe.

From humble beginnings as a group of friends Tony Hadley, John Keeble, Steve Norman and brothers Gary and Martin Kemp emerged from Soho’s ultra hip Blitz Club in 1979.

They became one of the most successful groups to evolve during the New Romantic era, their music a mixture of funk, jazz, soul and synthpop.

Debut single To Cut a Long Story Short, which reached number five in the UK singles charts in 1980, was the first of 10 UK Top 10 hits, including Chant No. 1 (I Don’t Need This Pressure On), Only When You Leave, Through the Barricades, Gold, which just missed out on the top spot and 1983 chart-topper True.

The band split acrimoniously in 1990 but announced their reunion in March 2009, complete with a tour that began in October that year - the last time the band played at Sheffield Arena.
