Set in London during and just after the Second World War, The End of the Affair tells the story of up and coming writer Maurice Bendrix and his passionate relationship with Sarah Miles, the wife of an impotent civil servant.

After a violent episode at Maurice’s apartment, Sarah suddenly and without explanation breaks off the affair.

This very intimate story examines themes of obsession and jealousy, enhanced by writer Graham Greene’s evocative analysis of the love of self, the love of another, and the love of God.

The End of the Affair was written in 1952 and has been made into two films, most recently in 1999 starring Ralph Fiennes and Julianne Moore.

Tickets for the Buxton production cost £16 and £19. Contact 01298 72190 or www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
