Here comes the summer!

In August, the Theatre Royal welcomes the return of the annual Colin McIntyre Classic Thriller Season, featuring four intriguing murder mysteries to solve including Jekyll and Hyde, Suddenly at Home, Night Must Fall and Stage Struck.

Some of the UK’s biggest musical theatre productions return to the Theatre Royal stage this summer, including Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story on Stage, and Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar.

Another comedy musical making a welcome return to the Theatre Royal this summer is Spamalot, starring Joe Pasquale as King Arthur and his son, Joe Tracini, as his manservant Patsy.

The laughter continues with the disastrously accident-prone Peter Pan Goes Wrong and the West End smash hit East Is East, starring Pauline McLynn, at the Theatre Royal and with Reginald D Hunter at the Royal Concert Hall, visiting with his current tour.

Families looking to have some summer fun together will enjoy the musical stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Room On The Broom at the Theatre Royal in July.

Classical and world music at the Royal Concert Hall this summer includes a gospel concert featuring the Town Hall Gospel Choir Birmingham, and a return visit from Inala – A Zulu Ballet featuring the South African Grammy Award winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

The Halle orchestra returns, as does the London Philharmonic Orchestra and also Opera North with a concert staging of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman. Leading composer David Arnold performs some of his greatest songs and scores with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

For music fans, big names visiting the Royal Concert Hall this summer include Elvis Costello, Jane McDonald, Burt Bacharach, The Overtones, The Piano Guys, and the award-winning Foden’s Brass Band. Hits from the 1950s, 60s and 70s will be celebrated in the rock ‘n’ roll variety show That’ll Be The Day, soul’s 60s origins will be brought to life in Soul Legends a.
