Taster of Chesterfield Crooked Spire murder-mystery musical

An extract from a medieval murder-mystery musical set in Chesterfield in 1360 when the Crooked Spire Church was being built will be shown online.

The Crooked Spire (Windlass Edition) features actors from all around the country, including alumni of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, supported by choir members from St Mary and All Saints Church (Crooked Spire) and Dronfield Parish Church.

Chesterfield’s famous landmark was built just a few years after the global pandemic known as the Plague.

The musical tells the story of John Carpenter who arrives in town to help build that spire. But death and intrigue strike the construction site and John is suspected of murder. He is faced with a life and death struggle to clear his name and bring the guilty to justice.

This will be followed by questions and answers with the actors and creators (on Zoom) and hosted by Emily Gray, executive director of Mercury Musical Developments. The extract will be available to view on YouTube until midnight on Sunday, December 13, 2020.

Ashgate Heritage Arts has received public funding through Arts Council England for the musical.
