Jodie Prenger stars in Sheffield Crucible's online show The Band Plays On

West End star Jodie Prenger is among the actors to be cast in The Band Plays On which will be filmed at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre for an online audience.

Jodie rose to fame in 2008 when she won the television show I’d Do Anything and the prize role of Nancy in Oliver! in London’s West End.

She went on to achieve further success in musical theatre, touring in productions of Calamity Jane, Tell Me On A Sunday, Shirley Valentine, Abigail’s Party and A Taste Of Honey.

The Band Plays On will be available for viewers to watch on digital devices from March 15 to 28, 2021 and tickets are now on sale.

Set against a soundtrack featuring the music of Sheffield’s most celebrated artists, the show tells extraordinary stories of solidarity and survival from the Steel City. The script is by Chris Bush who penned Standing at the Sky’s Edge which was produced at the for Crucible.

Performers include Sandra Marvin, who played Jessie Grant in Emmerdale, and was most recently seen in the West End musical Waitress. Sandra played Queenie in Showboat at Sheffield’s Crucible and in the West End. She joined Kate Bush for her Before The Dawn concerts at Eventime Hammersmith Apollo and appears on Kate’s album, Before The Dawn Live.

Anna-Jane Casey previously appeared at the Crucible in 2016, leading the cast as Annie Oakley in the Christmas production of Annie Get Your Gun. She has made numerous appearances as Velma Kelly in Chicago, appearing alongside Ruthie Henshall. Anna-Jane won the Theatre Management Association award in 2005 for her performance as Mabel in Mack & Mabel at the Waterside Theatre.

Soul and jazz singer Jocasta Almgill appeared in the film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Her musical theatre tours include Hair, The Blues Brothers and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The cast is completed by Maimuna Memon who returns following her role in Standing at the Sky’s Edge­­, produced by the team that is behind The Band Plays On.
