Alfresco film fun in Nottingham

With temperatures set to soar, Nottinghamshire Hospice is providing families with the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine.

The Alfresco Film Festival, driven by Nottingham City Transport, will show films for all ages on Saturday at Nottingham Race Course.

During the afternoon, families can enjoy a two-for-one film screening with Despicable Me (2010) followed by Minions (2015). Throwback fun for the grown-ups follows in the evening when 80s fanatics can grab a drink from the bar, enjoy their favourite 80s hits and watch 80s classic Top Gun (1986).

The Alfresco Film Festival will raise essential funds for Nottinghamshire Hospice. Each year, the hospice needs to raise nearly £3 million to continue offering care services to people in Nottinghamshire with life-limiting illnesses and support their family and carers too.

Both of Patrick’s parents are guests at the Hospice’s Day Therapy Centre every Friday, he said: “What the Hospice has done for mum and dad is amazing. It has given them something to look forward to, and it’s given me a break. Thank you for giving them a new purpose in life.”

Events and community fundraiser at Nottinghamshire Hospice, Tiffany Jackson-Bieeu, added: “We know how important it is to have family by your side in times of illness, but we also know how hard it can be to care for your loved ones. With the money raised from the Alfresco Film Festival and events like it, we can carry on supporting carers like Patrick as they support their family and friends.”

The film festival is supported by Nottingham City Transport and festival-goers will be able to take advantage of the money-saving Grouprider ticket. For just £4.50, up to five people (minimum one adult, maximum two adults) can make unlimited journeys for the day. The Nottingham City Transport Red Line 44 bus will take festival-goers straight to the event from the city.

Nottingham City Transport Marketing Manager, Anthony Carver-Smith, said: “The Alfresco Film Festival is a very fun way to raise money for Nottinghamshire Hospice and Nottingham City Transport is proud to extend its support for this very worthy cause. Our drivers on the 44 from the City Centre look forward to receiving a minion “bello” as customers board and they transport passengers to this fantastic, family-friendly event.”
