Downpage Liberation to play Belper gig

Derby-based indie-rock band The Downpage Liberation are set to leap into action at a legendary Belper venue.

The Downpage will play at the George and Dragon, in Belper, on Friday, October 17.

The band are poised to release their new EP, The Nth Degree, and will be selling hard copies of the four-track short album at the show.

The gig comes a week after a sold-out performance at The Victoria Inn, in Derby, which also featured The Arcadians, Exile 84 and A Conspiracy of Ravens.

The Downpage, whose music is influenced by stoner rock bands like Queens of the Stone Age, 60s garage bands like The Stooges and soft rock exponents including Fleetwood Mac, have also had a busy summer.

Their much-hyped slot at Y Not festival was followed up with another packed house at Dovefest and preceded by victory in Derby’s city-wide battle of the bands.

And they are hoping The Nth Degree, which is due for commercial release in the coming weeks, will help them solidify their reputation as one of the top unsigned bands in Derbyshire.

Guitarist Jon McKenzie said: “We’re used to being on the bill with three or four other bands and playing shorter sets but, on Friday, we get the stage to ourselves for two hours.

“That’ll enable us to get through a lot of our older material we’ve grown to miss playing and we can mix up our styles a bit more than usual.

“Along with our normal set of high-energy, head-spinning rock, we’ll be taking things down a notch with some quieter, more thoughtful stuff and ramping up the tempo for some more dancey tracks.

“We had a great summer and met a lot of really great people who have got into our stuff.

“But now we’re looking forward to Autumn and Winter and the release of our EP, which sounds absolutely huge, is something we’re really excited about.”

The Downpage will start their set on Friday at around 8.45pm.

The first Downpage EP, Now you Know, is available to purchase from all online music retailers, including Amazon and iTunes.
