seasonal concert.

Carols, songs and readings will be shared in a programme which will include solo items from young people and an opportunity for audience participation.

The concert, entitled A Festive Evening of Words and Music, is on Saturday, December 21, at7.30pm in Bakewell Methodist Church.

The singers will be accompanied by pianist Amanda Kornas and organist Keith Hodgson.

Tickets £8 from Bakewell Bookshop, choir members and on the door and will include seasonal refreshments. Accompanied children and students free.

A donation from the proceeds of ticket sales will be made to Ashgate Hospice in memory of Jennifer Downey, former choral society member and secretary.

Earlier on Saturday, the choral society will be holding their Christmas market at the church from 10am to 2pm.

There will be a tombola and stalls selling cards, locally made glass decorations, soaps, handicrafts and Christmas decorations; jams, chutneys and preserves, cakes, books and a bric-a-brac stall.

A giant Christmas hamper stuffed with everything needed for a gourmet festive season will be raffled throughout the day.

The kitchen will be open for refreshments including many varieties of tea, freshly made coffee, mouth-watering home-made cakes and fresh soup and rolls.

Entry is free to the Christmas market.
