Assistant manager Chris Morgan has praised Chesterfield’s players following an ‘honest’ inquest into Saturday’s FA Cup drubbing.

Spireites players and management stayed in the dressing room for an hour after the final whistle to discuss their 5-0 home trouncing to Wycombe Wanderers.

And Morgan felt the open discussions were of great benefit to all involved.

“It was a constuctive chat after the game. A lot has been made of it but we were just talking, if it was an hour then it flew by,” said Morgan.

“The boss spoke, I spoke and then we asked the lads what they thought. It’s important to get the players feedback, they have just been beaten so what do they think?

“It’s not just what me and the gaffer think, we got some real good feedback and it was interesting.

“After a result like that that there is going to be a certain amount of criticism and questions asked.

“It was good to have the discussion and the players were great. The boss is not one that just stands there, talks and dismisses, the feedback of the players is important and very interesting.

“It was not panic stations, but when you get a result like we had last Saturday and the manner of the defeat, you have to address it. You cannot just sweep it under the carpet so we spoke about it and challenged each other.

“The players are not daft and are honest enough to hold their hands up when they make a mistake.”

Morgan also spoke of his delight as Chesterfield bounced back on Tuesday night with victory over Rochdale in the Checkatrade Trophy.

He added: “We got the first part of the response on Tuesday and we need to take it into the league on Saturday.

“The players knew they had been poor and gave bad goals away. We felt as though we had been playing well going into the game so it came as a bit of a surprise, but we got back straight back on it and won the next game which is important.

“Tuesday was the perfect reaction. We knew we were disappointing on Saturday so it was good to get the win and a clean sheet.”
