Chesterfield’s Horns Bridge roundabout will be closed overnight until next week to allow resurfacing work to take place.

The busy junction will be shut each night from 8pm to 4am until September 29 – but not this Saturday or Sunday evenings.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire County Council, which is carrying out the work, said: “It’s part of our £40million investment to improve roads across the county.”

They apologised for any inconvenience caused by the closure.

Last October, the authority announced it would spend £40m on improving roads and pavements across the county over the next 18 months.

It usually spends around £23m per year on road maintenance and improvements. But this year extra money has been pledged by the Government for road maintenance, including potholes.

The county council spokesperson added: “This investment in our road network will make a significant difference to everyone who lives, works or travels through Derbyshire."
