The appeal has come from the team at Derby Parks and follows the temporary closure of all park amenities, playgrounds, sports courts and outdoor gyms. All still water lakes are closed to anglers.

Last weekend, the car park at Markeaton Park was closed on police advice due to the number of people arriving by car. It is not the first time that car parks have been closed for this reason and Derby Parks will continue to monitor the situation in other areas, working in consultation with the police.

The aim is for everyone to enjoy their short break outdoors, but to avoid large gatherings. Use phones and social media to stay in touch with friends and family for the time being – the parks will still be there when the coronavirus pandemic is over.

Derby Parks team is advising everyone to stay close to home and choose a local space to walk to if possible.

Keep your distance while you’re there and stay at least two metres away from other people.

Exercise alone, or only with members of your household. Wash your hands as soon as you get home.

Chesterfield Borough Council's parks and country parks remain open for residents to get exercise and fresh air.

Residents using parks in the borough are urged to follow social distancing guidelines including not meeting up with friends or family for games and parties and not using play equipment or other facilities that are closed.

Car parks are still closed at Derbyshire County Council-managed countryside sites including Elvaston Castle Country Park and Shipley Country Park. Residents living within walking distance can access the council’s countryside sites in line with Government advice to go for a walk, jog or cycle in their household group, keeping a safe distance from others once a day.

All playgrounds, skateparks and sports courts under High Peak Borough Council’s remit are closed until further notice.
