Theatre company needs you!

As one successful season of five productions ends, thoughts turn to the forthcoming season of plays for Hasland Theatre Company.

The line-up of plays starts in September with An Evening with Gary Lineker, followed in November by Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, The Government Inspector starts off 2012, then An Audience with Murder in March and ending in May with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

With such a varied season ahead, it’s the company’s intention to increase their membership, both in terms of actors and backstage crew.

Nicky Beards, the company’s publicity officer and director of Twelfth Night says, ‘Our last big recruitment drive was in 2003 and we gained some excellent new talent as well as good friends - we’d like to do the same again in 2011. We are a local theatre company that prides itself on producing good quality plays but above all, it’s the friendliness, fun and spirit of teamwork that defines HTC. New members will be given a warm welcome and hopefully, the opportunity to join in straight away’.

Budding actors are invited to attend auditions next month. The auditions will be held at the Playhouse on Storforth Lane from 7pm over three evenings; Monday 6 June, Tuesday 7 June and Thursday 9 June and individuals need only attend on one of those dates. Everyone is welcome, whatever their gender, age or ability and people can audition with friends if they prefer.

Nicky said: “I entered Twelfth Night into the Royal Shakespeare Theatre ‘s Open Stages Project which seeks to celebrate the breadth and quality of Shakespeare plays produced by amateur theatres across the UK. Part of the focus is to look at working with the wider community in a variety of ways; increasing our membership is an important aspect of that. Auditioning for Twelfth Night could also lead to a potential part in any of our four other plays next season. I really don’t want people to be put off by Shakespeare - it’s surprisingly easy to learn and understand in performance. However, if potential auditionees wish to offer up something other than Shakespeare, that’s fine’.

Anybody interested in joining Hasland Theatre Company by auditioning in June can register by emailing HTCmembers@hotmail.com or by phoning the theatre on 01246 272271 by June 5. To learn more about HTC, visit www.haslandtheatrecompany.co.uk
