A cast of more than 80 talented High Peak students are to come together for a magnificent production of a world-famous musical at The Art Theatre in New Mills next month.
Rehearsals are well underway for the production of ‘Les Misérables School Edition’ by Glossop Operatic & Dramatic Society (GODS), in association with Glossopdale Community College.
Set in post-revolutionary France, the story follows Jean Valjean from his release from the prison chain gang, through his rise to local mayor and factory-owner, to a fugitive pursued by the rigid police inspector, Javert.
Witness the tragic impact on Fantine, the ruthlessness of the Thenardiers, the romance between Marius and Cosette, and the loneliness of Eponine, all set against the Paris students’ revolt.
Featuring a magnificent set, this tale of tortured souls is told through fantastic songs including I Dreamed a Dream, Master of the House, Stars, One Day More, Castle on a Cloud and Do You Hear the People Sing.
The show will be performed at The Art Theatre, Jodrell Street, New Mills, from Tuesday April 16 to Saturday April 20 at 7.15pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
Tickets, priced £12 for adults and £8 for children, are available at www.g-o-d-s.org.uk or from Bay Tree Books in Glossop. They will also be on sale at The Art Theatre on Saturday March 16 and Saturday March 23, between 10am and 1pm.
